However it is possible that Windows Security Center still detects AVG Firewall as installed. Please run the AVG DelRep utility to clear Windows repository and restart your computer. this worked like a charm, it didn't recognise Microsoft security essentials as my antivirus either, so i stopped and started it again in task manager and now it's fine.
